Deidra Hamrick Schwartz is living proof that retirement does not mean retreat. At over 60 years young, this Birmingham, Alabama native has traded boardrooms for backlots and business attire for wardrobe fittings. And she is absolutely thriving.
For more than 40 years, Deidra worked in the business world, spending the last 30 as an executive secretary to vice presidents at a major insurance company. “It was a full career,” she says. “But now I’ve stepped into something completely new, and it feels like coming home.”
Her love for performance started early. As a child, she would put on “shows” for visiting relatives. As a teen, she graced pageant stages and school productions. Later, she brought stories to life at church, performing skits tied to Sunday school lessons. “Acting has always been a part of me,” she reflects. “Now that I’m retired, I finally have the time and support to pursue it professionally.”
Deidra’s days are now filled with training, auditions, and booked roles. She was recently cast as a supporting character in an Amazon feature film, complete with her own trailer, wardrobe specialist, and stand-in. “It was surreal,” she recalls. “That moment confirmed I was exactly where I’m meant to be.”
She has also made her mark in modeling, earning the prestigious title of 2025 Lifestyle Model of the Year from the Modeling Association of America International. “That honor was a milestone,” she says with grace. “It reminded me that there is space in this industry for every age and every chapter.”
What draws her to the screen and stage is more than glamour. “I’ve always loved how films and books allow you to go on an adventure,” she says. “Not to escape, but to take a mental vacation. Now, getting to do that through acting is absolutely thrilling.”
Her biggest takeaway? “A positive attitude is everything,” Deidra says. “Manifestation through thought, hard work, and consistent training matters. No one will do it for you. You have to show up.”
And to anyone who thinks they’ve missed their window, her message is radiant. “You’ll never be younger than you are today. This industry wants fresh faces in every demographic. Be one of them.”
With a supportive husband by her side, two accomplished sons, and grandchildren just a mile away, Deidra is firmly rooted in joy, family, and faith. But her eyes are set on what’s ahead. The lights, the lens, the next scene. This is not a reinvention. It is Deidra Hamrick Schwartz in her fullest form.
